Africa Barnhill, Licensed Esthetician
In 1992 Africa Nalaungo Barnhill was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and during her quest to find an alternative solution to the medication that her doctor provided and their side effects, she discovered the exciting world of herbs and alternative therapies. As she searched the internet and researched books and other resources she stumbled across natural skincare options and began to take an interest in their benefits. She found different types of books on creating your own skin care products and it sparked her creative juices. She began making homemade products as gifts for family members and friends and her creations became a hit. After receiving repeat requests and recommendations from friends and family to pursue her own business and her desire to help others learn and benefit from all natural skin care products she formed Sweet Herbal Scentsations a homemade bath and body product business out of her kitchen.
She began to frequent state and county festivals, flea markets, consignment at various small businesses, setting up in business parking lots for seasonal sales and word of mouth. She developed a loyal client base, her products became a hit in her town and surrounding areas. Her body cream was her signature product, along with her body cream she manufactured body sprays, bath salts, body scrubs, body oils, and edible products. After unfounded success with Sweet Herbal Scentsations, she yearned to further her services and to be able to have a more meaningful impact with her business. She fulfilled that dream by attending The Aveda Institute of Chapel Hill in North Carolina specializing in Esthiology. She successfully graduated in the summer of 2008 with her Esthetics license.
